How to Pack a Printer

Packing a Printer Made Easy

Frequently when moving, people tend to be concerned about the proper method for transporting electronics such as computers or TVs, but printers tend to be forgotten. In order for printers to arrive safely, you must follow the proper procedure before your Gainesville moving company moves it.

Analyze Which Type of Printer You Have

If you have an inkjet printer, it is important to remove the ink cartridges. If they remain within the printer, they may get jostled during the move and cause the the ink to spill. Unfortunately, ink stains easily and is extremely difficult to remove. Place the cartridges within their original box and then inside of a plastic bag. Next, make sure the box with the ink is placed within a larger box with the top up so the ink will not spill. You may even need to tape it to the box to ensure it will not tip over.

With laser printers, you will still want to remove toners. If it is shaken within the Gainesville moving truck, toner will leak out. Though it is easier to clean than ink is, removing toner will allow you to avoid unnecessary work later on.

Remove Cables

Unplug all cables that are associated with your printer and place them in another bag. If there are any other removable pieces or trays on the printer, it may be beneficial to also place them in the bag. This way, there are less elements that are susceptible to damage and instead, are in a safe place. Make sure you label this bag so you will be able to find it when you are unpacking.

Putting Printer in a Box

In order to protect any doors and trays, on your printer, that have the potential to be harmed while moving, it is best to tape them closed. Make sure they are tightly positioned against the printer so they will not move. You can use masking tape or scotch tape. It is best to pack it in the original box it came in if you still have it. If you do not, use a box with a similar size. Then place the printer carefully into the box. Label it so you will know which box contains the printer. Also ensure that you notify your Gainesville movers where your printer is so they can carefully handle it.

If you follow these steps, you will be more likely to unpack a printer that is intact. Your job of reinstalling it will be much easier because the labelled components will be together and accessible.
